Tax Incentives

Employers are eligible to claim at 15% tax credit for wages paid to apprentices in levels 1 and 2, up to a maximum of $5,000 per year per apprentice. Employees in rural and northern Manitoba can claim 20% of wages, up to a maximum of $5,000 per year, per apprentice.

 

Other Tax Incentives

Youth Work Experience Hiring Incentive (New in 2015) 25% of wages and salaries earned after September 1, 2015 lifetime cap of up to $5,000 / student

High School Apprentice Hiring Incentive (Enhanced in 2016) 25% of wages and salaries earned in the year cap of $5,000 / apprentice / level / year

Co-op Student Hiring Incentive (Enhanced in 2016) 15% of wages and salaries earned in the year lifetime cap of up to $5,000 / student

Co-op Graduate Hiring Incentive (Enhanced in 2016) 15% of wages and salaries earned in the year cap of $2,500 / year for the first two years of employment after graduation

Early Level Rural/Northern Apprentice Hiring Incentive Early-Level (level 1 and level 2) apprentices who normally work outside the city of Winnipeg 20% of wages and salaries earned in the year cap of $5,000 / apprentice / level / year

Journeyperson Hiring Incentive 15% of wages and salaries earned in the year cap of $5,000 / year for first two years after becoming a journeyperson

Paid Work Experience Tax Credits are net of other financial assistance (such as the Federal Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit).
