SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Feed and Nutrient has high level of responsibility with a diverse Feed Department Team, feeding over 1.3 million hogs in Western Canada annually through a combination of company owned and commercial mills.
The candidate will be a forward thinker, with experience in a Senior Management/Board of Director role and will be responsible for a budget exceeding $200 million, including capital needs assessments and budgets, developing procurement strategies, managing costs, as well as tracking commodity costs and futures markets. Experience leading a diverse team will be required, and the ability to promptly resolve unexpected challenges in a dynamic environment while overseeing three primary areas – Feed Production, Procurement, and Nutrition/Feed Quality.
The Company operates 14 company owned feed mills producing 385,000 tonnes of feed annually and purchases an additional 160,000 tonnes of feed annually from +/-10 commercial feed mills. Responsibilities also include overseeing the feed quality programs (Feed Assure, HACCP, GMP).
This department is responsible for purchasing all ingredients for company owned and contract mills, with a focus on prioritizing direct from farmer purchases of grains and pulses, preventing ingredient shortages and keenly observing futures markets and trends for opportunities.
Nutrition and Feed Quality
Integral to the production of hogs is our nutrition program, which is based on principles of least cost formulation balanced with animal performance as well as data analysis and assessment of success of feeding programs.
