Today, the Manitoba government announced a shuffle in its cabinet, resulting in the appointment of a new Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development. Manitoba Pork congratulates Minister Ralph Eichler on his return to the role of Manitoba’s Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development. Minister Eichler brings a wealth of experience in both agriculture and rural issues, and Manitoba Pork looks forward to continuing a strong working relationship with the provincial government.

“We welcome Minister Eichler back to his role as Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development, and we look forward to working alongside him to ensure our sector’s continued prosperity,” said Rick Préjet, chair of Manitoba Pork. “Minister Eichler has a strong grasp of agriculture and rural issues. With about 14,000 Manitobans across the province depending on our sector to make their living, we look forward to continuing our strong and collaborative relationship with the provincial government as they recognize the importance of the hog sector as one of Manitoba’s strongest private-sector job creators.”

Manitoba Pork also wishes to recognize the contributions of Minister Blaine Pedersen as he leaves his ministerial role. From his days working with agriculture advocacy groups, to his early days as an MLA, and finally through his time in cabinet, Manitoba’s hog sector and the entire agriculture sector in this province has benefited greatly from Minister Pedersen’s leadership.

“We have worked with Minister Pedersen regularly during his time as an MLA and as a cabinet minister, and we sincerely appreciate his advocacy for agriculture and leadership on issues impacting rural Manitoba,” Préjet added. “We wish him success in the next phase of his elected life and thank him for his dedicated service to agriculture in our province and to the people he has served.”

Manitoba Pork will be reaching out to Minister Eichler in the coming days to set up an introductory meeting.
