Manitoba Pork and its producers are donating $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, in support of the Ukraine humanitarian crisis appeal, Manitoba Pork chair Rick Préjet announced last night at the 57th annual Manitoba Pork Council Annual General Meeting. The Canadian Red Cross is actively responding to humanitarian needs in Ukraine, through immediate and ongoing relief efforts.

“The devastation and horror that we see in the images and video coming out of Ukraine calls us to support the Ukrainian people in any way we can,” Préjet said. “Agriculture is the most important industry in Ukraine, just as it is the backbone of the Manitoba economy, and immigrants from Ukraine are a key part of the fabric that makes up our province and our provincial agriculture sector.”

The Canadian Red Cross estimates over three million people have fled the country, while an estimated 18 million people inside Ukraine are affected. Red Cross teams are on the ground in Ukraine offering support, including food, water, clothing, hygiene kits, first aid training, medical supplies, and around the clock physical and mental health care.

The Canadian Red Cross has launched the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal to respond to those affected by the crisis. Canadians can donate online at redcross.ca or by texting UKRAINE to 20222 to donate $10.
