Small Scale Producers

In early 2021, the Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians released the Canadian Small-Scale Pig Farming Manual and the Top 10 Guide of Things to Know About Raising Pigs. These resources were built in collaboration with small-scale pig farmers from across Canada to reflect what they learned by doing. The tips included in these documents help farmers raise their pigs successfully and responsibly, whether they have two pigs or 200 pigs, or they are new to pig farming. Click here to access the Manual and Guide.

Manitoba Agriculture has developed the Animal Welfare Handbook for veterinarians and for producers. This resource, along with the others listed here, are good tools for prospective and current small-scale producers as they consider resources and costs required to be a successful and responsible caregiver to pigs.
