Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE)

The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) has launched the Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) platform, which will replace the current on-farm food safety and animal care assurance programs (CQA) with new and improved programming. The new CPE platform will include:

  • PigSAFE Canada, the on-farm food safety assurance program
  • PigCARE Canada, the on-farm animal care assurance program
  • PigTRACE Canada, the national swine traceability system

Transition from CQA to CPE

Swine premises currently registered on CQA will begin joining the CPE platform in 2019 with all swine premises transitioned onto the new platform by 2021. Premises due for a Full CQA Validation on or after January 1, 2019 will be assessed by the new CPE standards and, if successful, certified onto the CPE platform.

CPE Updates

The development of CPE is being conducted by CPC through a set of committees, involving pork producers, veterinarians, researchers, and other production experts. The program materials and assessment processes are being pilot tested on farms across Canada in order to improve the programs.
